Rated power is not energy consumption
Watts describe an instantaneous input rating. Energy depends on power over time and on how the control cycles. Two ovens with similar ratings can have different preheat times, heat losses and cooking-energy use. Buyers should not rank efficiency from nameplate wattage alone.
Define three separate measurements
Preheat time is the interval from a defined ambient start to a defined cavity condition. Recovery is the time and energy required after a controlled door opening and load insertion. Idle energy is the rate used while maintaining a set condition without active cooking work. Each answers a different commercial question.
Make comparisons fair
Use the same supply voltage, ambient temperature, setpoint, rack position, load, door-opening duration and endpoint rule. Record the full power and temperature traces. If a supplier uses the first sensor crossing as the preheat endpoint while another requires stabilization, the times are not comparable.
Commercial-oven precedent
ENERGY STAR commercial oven criteria explicitly use cooking-energy efficiency and idle-energy rate; its specifications also define preheat time. Household and portable products may use different standards, but the measurement logic remains useful when writing a B2B brief.
