EMC, RoHS and REACH: Three Different Compliance Questions for Electronic Ovens

EMC concerns electromagnetic disturbance; RoHS restricts substances in electrical equipment; REACH governs chemicals more broadly. One report cannot replace all three.

Separate the questions

EMC asks whether equipment generates unacceptable disturbance and whether it can operate as intended in its electromagnetic environment. RoHS restricts specified hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. REACH addresses chemical registration, restrictions and communication duties across a broader set of articles and substances. A passing EMC report says nothing about restricted-substance content.

Build an evidence matrix

For EMC, define the final electronics, cable routing, control software and operating modes. For RoHS, collect supplier declarations and risk-based material data tied to part numbers and revisions. For REACH, maintain substance communication and restriction reviews appropriate to the article and market. Radio-connected products can add another regulatory route.

Watch configuration drift

Switching a display board, power supply, motor, filter, cable or firmware can change emissions or immunity. Switching solder, plating, plastic, coating or supplier can change substance evidence. The bill of materials should link both electrical and material compliance documents to approved revisions.
