These are not interchangeable marks
CE marking is the manufacturer’s declaration that a product placed on the EU market complies with applicable EU harmonization legislation after the required conformity assessment and technical documentation. The IECEE CB Scheme facilitates international acceptance of test results among participating bodies. In the US workplace context, OSHA recognizes NRTLs that test and certify products within their recognized scope.
Build the market matrix first
List countries, voltage and plug variants, household or commercial use, radio functions and sales channels. Identify applicable safety, EMC, radio, energy, chemical and food-contact requirements. Then ask certification bodies to confirm standards, editions, national differences, sample quantities and factory inspection needs.
Control the certified construction
The report, critical-component list, drawings, ratings, firmware and instruction manual must match production. A supplier should not substitute a heater, relay, cord, insulation or coating merely because the headline rating looks similar. Certification changes and retesting must be reviewed before implementation.
Official context
The European Commission warns that voluntary certificates are not a substitute for EU legal compliance. OSHA explains that an NRTL mark signifies certification to appropriate standards within the laboratory’s recognized scope.
